Landscape fragmentation and Ebola outbreaks
نویسنده
چکیده
The 2014 Ebola outbreak started in early-March, Guinea (Baize et al. 2014). Following, the outbreak spread into Liberia in March, Sierra Leone in May and Nigeria in July. Today every city in the affected regions embedded in the West Africa is at risk (Pigott et al. 2014). Hypotheses have been raised about possible mechanisms that made dynamics of Ebola transmission exacerbated (Bausch & Schwarz 2014). The coupled pathogen-reservoir system has evolved from a zoonotic-only transmission, involving bats and non-human primates, into a

COVID-19 Outbreak in Africa: Lessons and Insights from the West African Ebola Virus Disease Epidemics
Over the years, the African continent has had to battle several outbreaks of infectious diseases in different countries. Some of the most deadly were the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks that occurred in West Africa between 2014 and 2016 affecting Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and, more recently, from 2018 to 2020 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In the era of the COVID-19 pand...
متن کاملThe nexus between forest fragmentation in Africa and Ebola virus disease outbreaks
Tropical forests are undergoing land use change in many regions of the world, including the African continent. Human populations living close to forest margins fragmented and disturbed by deforestation may be particularly exposed to zoonotic infections because of the higher likelihood for humans to be in contact with disease reservoirs. Quantitative analysis of the nexus between deforestation a...
متن کاملMathematical modeling, analysis and simulation of Ebola epidemics
Mathematical models are the most important tools in epidemiology to understand previous outbreaks of diseases and to better understand the dynamics of how infections spread through populations. Many existing models closely approximate historical disease patterns. This article investigates the mathematical model of the deadly disease with severe and uncontrollable bleeding, Ebola which is...
متن کاملA Short Overview of Ebola Outbreak
Ebola virus disease (formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever) is a severe, often fatal illness, with a death rate of up to 90%. The illness affects humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees). Ebola first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks, one in a village near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the other in a remote area of Sudan. T...
متن کاملIntegration assessment of Protected Rangeland habitats using landscape ecological approach
The management of areas with landscape ecological approach helps us to have more integrated of considering completely management and also keep the area’s values. Lar National Park and Varjin Protected Area are the most important areas of their biodiversity and wildlife habitats. The aim of this study was quantification of fragmentation in Lar National Park and Varjin Protected Area and to compa...
